What is Word Robot?
Word Robot is a free collection of playful primary English practice activities for Reception, KS1 and KS2 — covering common exception words, spellings, adverbs, guess the letter, word search and printable worksheets.
Which year groups are covered?
Reception (Year R) through Year 6. Word lists and worksheets are organised by year group so children can practise the right material for their stage.
Do I need an account?
No. Everything is free to use without an account. Sign up to the newsletter at the bottom of any page and we'll email a free weekly resource.
How do Common Exception Words work?
Open the Common Exception Words page and pick a year group from the dropdown. A random word appears — press the speaker to hear it read aloud, then tap 'Next word' for another. Use 'See all words' to browse the full list, or print it out. Tap the background to change the colour theme.
Can I change the reading voice?
Yes — on the Common Exception Words page use the voice dropdown to switch between Auto, Daniel and Shelley. Your choice is remembered for next time.
How do Spellings work?
Pick a Year (1–6) and a Term (1–6). A word list from that term is loaded — press play to hear each word read aloud so your child can practise writing it.
How does Guess the Letter work?
An emoji and a word with a missing vowel appear. Tap the vowel button (a, e, i, o, u) you think is missing. Correct answers turn green and add to your score and streak; wrong ones flash red. Your best streak is tracked as you play.
How does Adverbs work?
A sentence appears with one adverb hidden inside. Tap the word you think is the adverb — if you're right it turns green with a tick. Great for spotting how adverbs describe verbs.
How does Word Search work?
Tap letters in the grid to highlight them. Use the word list (with helpful emojis) on the side as clues. Tap 'New puzzle' any time for a fresh grid.
How do the Worksheets work?
The Worksheets page shows printable PDFs organised by year group and topic — tap one to open it in a new tab and print. For a surprise, use Random Worksheet: choose a year (or 'Any year') and press shuffle to pull a random sheet, then download or print it.
Will it work on my phone or tablet?
Yes. Every page is designed for both mobile and desktop, so it works on phones, tablets, Chromebooks and laptops.
